Majoor Blaffinski and him try to enjoy their days as much as possible before Kevin has to go off to boarding school.
But he gets sidetracked by Grandpa Barend Sweefarend's old stuff in the basement.
In his old journals there is written so many things, including about an island called Trofis on which monsters and dragons keep the curious away for a secret reason.
Kevin decides that he cannot go to school right now. He has to continue his grandfather's work.
He starts exploring some more stuff and discovers an envelope with a message inside that sends Kevin off on an adventure through secret portals inside a tunnel underneath their fire grate of their house.
And so, Kevin ends up involved in building a submarine in order to go and save someone called Patats who is held prisoner on the island.
Another of Grandpa's messages in the basement seem to be a treasure map that sends Kevin on a treasure hunt, but before he could find it, Operation Scorched Earth is put into motion by a gang of evil working for The Better World Project.
A nightmare night ensues during which Lukas the shepherd is abducted too.
